Jumbo Fire Logs FAQ's
Jumbo Fire Logs FAQ's
How are Bear Mountain FireLogs different than other "logs".
There are two types of "logs" on the market today. The paper covered wax logs are designed to provide a pleasant fireplace view for about an hour with very little heat. The second type of log is made from compressed wood materials, burns for many hours and provides a great deal of heat.
Bear Mountain FireLogs are long burning compressed logs that will produce nearly 90,000 BTU's of heat, and last up to 8 hours. These are heating logs, not "look pretty" logs.
How do FireLogs compare to cordwood?
FireLogs offer many advantages to cordwood. FireLogs are easy to store, easy to carry, come without dirt and spiders, and are much more efficient to burn. Well seasoned cordwood still contains nearly 25% moisture, while FireLogs contain less than 8%. This allows for cleaner burning without smoke, and more heat!
One pallet of FireLogs is equivalent to 1 ½ cords of firewood. When you compare FireLogs to the price of cordwood, you will see a significant savings.
What is the best way to start FireLogs?
Due to the compressed nature of these FireLogs, they are not easy to start. Ideally, you should make a bed of coals using kindling, before adding 1 or 2 FireLogs. If kindling is not available, carefully use an ax to chop 1"-2" pucks from your FireLog and start with a gel or chip firestarter product.
