Bear Mt. Pellets FAQ's

Are Bear Mountain Pellets different than other wood pellets?
Yes! Bear Mountain is the only wood pellet that uses hot & clean burning Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar in their pellets. Most other companies use a mix of Spruce, Pine and White Fir. These woods will not burn as hot or as clean as Bear Mountain.

Do Bear Mountain Pellets contain any binders or fillers?
No! Bear Mountain pellets contain only 100% wood.

Where does Bear Mountain get the wood to make their pellets?
Bear Mountain purchases clean Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar sawdust from sawmills in Oregon and Washington. These mills produce lumber products that are used around the world.

Many companies claim to have the "best" pellets. How can I be sure I am getting the "best"?
The only way to really determine the "best" is to try several brands. Instead of buying 30 bags of one brand, first try buying 10 bags of three different brands. As you burn these different brands, measure the heat coming out of your stove, the amount of ash being produced, and how clean your viewing window is. In a few weeks you will know what brand burns "best".

Golden Fire Pellets FAQ's

How are Golden Fire Pellets different than other pellets?
Golden Fire makes its pellets from 100% Douglas Fir. Over the years, numerous tests have shown that no other wood type burns as hot or as clean as Douglas Fir. Golden Fire pellets are also manufactured at its state of the art plant in Brownsville, Oregon. With consistent raw materials, experienced production workers, and premium quality machinery, Golden Fire sets the bar for "premium" pellets.

How long has Golden Fire been producing pellets?
Golden Fire has been producing wood pellets at the current Brownsville location for over 25 years. This plant is considered the first pellet manufacturing plant in the USA.

Golden Fire pellets often appear darker than other pellets. Why?
There are two primary reasons for this dark appearance. First, Golden Fire pellets are compressed under great pressure to give them a long burn. This pressure heats the resins in the wood, and darkens the appearance of the pellets. Secondly, Douglas Fir sawdust is much darker in color than pellet companies using other woods such as Spruce, Pine, or White Fir.

Jumbo Fire Logs FAQ's

How are Bear Mountain FireLogs different than other "logs".
There are two types of "logs" on the market today. The paper covered wax logs are designed to provide a pleasant fireplace view for about an hour with very little heat. The second type of log is made from compressed wood materials, burns for many hours and provides a great deal of heat.

Bear Mountain FireLogs are long burning compressed logs that will produce nearly 90,000 BTU's of heat, and last up to 8 hours. These are heating logs, not "look pretty" logs.

How do FireLogs compare to cordwood?
FireLogs offer many advantages to cordwood. FireLogs are easy to store, easy to carry, come without dirt and spiders, and are much more efficient to burn. Well seasoned cordwood still contains nearly 25% moisture, while FireLogs contain less than 8%. This allows for cleaner burning without smoke, and more heat!

One pallet of FireLogs is equivalent to 1 ½ cords of firewood. When you compare FireLogs to the price of cordwood, you will see a significant savings.

What is the best way to start FireLogs?
Due to the compressed nature of these FireLogs, they are not easy to start. Ideally, you should make a bed of coals using kindling, before adding 1 or 2 FireLogs. If kindling is not available, carefully use an ax to chop 1"-2" pucks from your FireLog and start with a gel or chip firestarter product.

BBQ Pellets FAQ's

What are BBQ pellets?
Many people consider cooking with BBQ pellets the "only way" to BBQ. American Heritage BBQ pellets are 100% natural pellets, made from the best smoking woods (Hickory, Mesquite, Alder, Maple, Cherry and Apple). The smoke from these woods adds delicious natural flavors to enhance the taste of any meal.

Do you have to use BBQ pellets in a Pellet BBQ Grill?
No. You can use BBQ pellets in any type of outdoor BBQ. If you are using a gas or charcoal grill, take a handful of BBQ pellets and wrap them in aluminum foil. Poke a small hole in the foil with a pen tip and set the pellets on the coals or on the lower grate of your grill. The heat from your grill will cause the pellets to smoke, flavoring your meal.

How does Dry Den compare to Shavings and Straw?
You will find Dry Den to be much easier to use in many ways. Dry Den is easier to store, easier to clean, easier to maintain, and much easier to dispose of. What are Zeolites, and are they really safe?

Cozy Den Bedding FAQ's

Aren't all shavings the same?
Definitely not! Most shaving companies simply bag the shaving they get from local lumber mills. Depending on what these mills are cutting, you may also get big chunks of wood as well as sawdust. Cozy Den double screens all their shavings to insure that you get shavings, not shavings, chunks and sawdust.

In addition, Cozy Den dries it shavings to insure healthy bedding. If not dried, shavings can mildew or mold, which is very unhealthy.

Why do you package Cozy Den in clear bags?
Cozy Den is proud to show off its shavings. Since they dry and screen all products, they are happy to show the consumer what is inside. If you see a solid colored bag of shavings you might wonder "what are they hiding"?

Are Cozy Den Shavings the same quality as the small baled small animal shavings?
Yes, Cozy Den is as good or better than the smaller bales. If you want to save money, consider buying a full bale of Cozy Den. It contain 10-20 times as much material as the smaller bales, for only $1-$2 more.
